The Cordelia Sapphire and Diamond Navette Ring in 14K White Gold

$1,800.00

The style of the navette dates back to the early nineteenth-century French culture, translating to “little ship.” Navette rings, like the Cordelia, have an elongated marquise shape with their length always longer than their width, as if a small vessel. This style has shown up in every historical era in the twentieth century, though each with dramatic variations. In the Victorian era, for instance, the shape was most distinctive, often quite skinny and elongated. In the 1950s, designers used two-tone metal, flat plates of metal studded with diamonds, and played with the way the navette was positioned on the hand by showing it across the finger or at a diagonal.

Elizabeth Henry has chosen to bring to life her own version of this style within the Edwardian era of her collection. Edwardian designers used delicate filigree metal work often depicting lace or draped fabric and milgrain detailing in their pieces. Elizabeth was inspired by the clash of delicacy and drama from the era and brought that forth in the Cordelia, with its fine details and bold shape.
